Frequently asked questions.

What can I expect in my first session?

Sessions are 50 minutes long and the first session generally includes discussing what has brought you to therapy, how this is impacting your daily life, relevant background information such as previous counselling or mental health difficulties, your family situation, and understanding your current life circumstances. This usually allows us to establish therapeutic goals you would like to work towards in sessions also.

What if I feel nervous about beginning counselling?

It is completely normal and very common to be nervous about starting counselling. It is challenging to talk about the things we may struggle with in life and Jessica knows this. Her approach is warm, empathic, and non-judgmental. Her aim to is to make the therapeutic space feel as safe as possible for the client and she will work with you to ensure she moves at a pace you are comfortable with.

Another common query that clients ask are whether their issues are ‘big’ enough or ‘bad’ enough for therapy? Jessica believes that everybody’s struggle is unique and that if there is something in your life that causes you pain, difficulty, or confusion, then that is something worth talking about.

Where can I have sessions?

Face-to-face sessions are available at rooms in Malvern (64 Glenferrie Road). Sessions are also available for clients Australia wide via phone or a secure video platform.

How much does a session cost and is it possible to get a rebate?

The total cost of a session is $245 (plus any applicable credit card fees).

If you have a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) you may be eligible for up to 10 Medicare rebated consultations in a calendar year. You will need to see your GP prior to your first appointment to assess if you are eligible for a MHCP. The Medicare rebate is $141.85.

If you don’t have a MHCP, Private Health rebates are also available, however, the rebate amount differs dependent on your provider and level of cover.
